Who gets the flu vaccine free
The HSE says you can get a free flu vaccine if you are:
- age 60 and older
- age 2 to 17
- a healthcare worker
- pregnant
- living in a nursing home or other long-term care facility
- in regular contact with pigs, poultry or waterfowl
- someone with a health condition that puts you at higher risk of flu (age 6 months and older)
- living with someone who has a health condition that puts them at higher risk of flu
- a carer for someone who has a health condition that puts them at higher risk of flu

When is the flu vaccine available?
The HSE says the flu vaccine is available from October to the end of April each year, and the best time to get it is before the flu season starts.
Can children get the flu vaccine at a pharmacy?
Yes. Children age 2 to 17 can get the nasal spray flu vaccine for free, including at pharmacies. Look for pharmacies marked "Children's flu" in the list.
Do I need an appointment for the flu vaccine?
Many pharmacies take online bookings — use the Book button where there is one. Otherwise, call the pharmacy before you go, as vaccine stock varies.
Can I get the COVID-19 vaccine at the same visit?
The HSE says you can get the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time if you are recommended a COVID-19 vaccine. Look for pharmacies marked "COVID-19".
